Yesterday was held the first meeting of its kind between the mayors of Vidin and Craiova - Dr. Tsvetan Tsenkov and Leah Olgutza Vasilescu, focusing on the implementation of cross-border projects funded by European Union programs. So far, the municipalities of Vidin and Craiova have not partnered on joint projects.

In order to intensify the cooperation was the visit to the Romanian city of a delegation from Vidin, including the Chairman of the Municipal Council Gennady Velkov, the Deputy Mayor of the Municipality Desislava Todorova and experts in project development. On the Romanian side, the chairman of the Dolj County Council, Kozmin Vasile, also took part in the talks.

Specific ideas were discussed, and in the first place the efforts will be focused on applying for projects for cross-border cooperation in the field of tourism and cultural and historical heritage. The Danube Park will be included as an object by the Municipality of Vidin, which will be modernized and renovated and thus will become an even more attractive place for tourists. The intention is to attract funding under two of the axes of the Romania-Bulgaria cross-border co-operation program: for cultural infrastructure and tourism, and for green infrastructure.

It was also agreed to apply with joint projects in the field of educational infrastructure and exchange of experience between students from Vidin and Craiova. Other important projects for the Municipality of Vidin were discussed, which are not eligible under the Cross-Border Cooperation Program, but the joint work will continue to find other suitable sources for their financing. Examples of such projects are the construction of a cannery and the establishment of a fruit and vegetable market. During the talks, transport infrastructure and healthcare were also identified as areas that offer significant opportunities for co-operation.

Dolj is one of the most economically successful regions in Romania. Therefore, the Municipality of Vidin will rely on the exchange of experience in connection with the construction of industrial parks and borrowing good practices in attracting investors.
