140 thousand foreigners will be able to work in Romania in 2024.

The number of foreign workers who will be able to work in Romania in 2024 will reach 140,000, or 40 percent above the threshold for that year, according to an analysis published this week by an online recruitment platform, the Romanian Agerpress agency.

According to eJobs, most employers are in the retail, hospitality, services, construction, transport and logistics or tourism sectors, as well as "entry-level positions" requiring a maximum of two years of experience.

Of the nearly 350,000 jobs announced from the beginning of January to the end of November, 86,000 were announced by employers in the retail sector, 51,000 in the service sector, 40,000 in the food industry, 37,000 in tourism, 32,000 from transport and logistics, and 28,000 from construction employers.

According to Salario, the salary comparison arm of iJobs, the national average net salary for an employee occupying a low, entry-level position in these sectors is between 2,600 and 3,600 lei, as follows: 3,000 lei for those employed in trade retail, 3,600 lei for construction workers, 3,000 lei for those working in the food industry and hotels and restaurants, 3,100 lei for those employed in transport and distribution, 2,600 lei for those working in tourism.

"2022 is the year in which the number of work permits granted to workers from non-EU countries increased the most, considering that in 2021 the contingent of foreign workers newly admitted to the labor market is was 50,000, which is twice as much as the previous year. According to official data, over 96,000 employment contracts for workers from countries outside the European Union were registered last year," the press release stated.
